gerade noch rechtzeitig bevor die tür für unser BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT fotoprojekt im juni schließt… bin ich auch noch dabei! wenn ich auf reisen bin, strahlen türen eine besondere faszination auf mich aus, so dass ich ganz oft die kamera zücke. sie sind manchmal geheimnisvoller und ganz oft bunter als bei uns zuhause…

i’m just in time before the door for our BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT photo challenge in june is finally closing … but i’m in! i’m always fascinated by doors especially when we are traveling. somehow doors in foreign countries seem to be more mystical and definitely more colorful than in our home country…

das lustige… das vergnügliche… das lebensfrohe… das extrovertierte… das optimistische… das freundliche… das energiegeladene… das sonnige… das glückliche… GELB setzten wir heute mal dem stürmischen herbstgrau da draußen entgegen. ich freu mich auf eure leuchtenden fotos! denn… beauty is where you find it.

die farbe des spanischen BASKENLANDS ist grün! das habe ich ehrlich gesagt nicht gewusst, bevor ich es am letzten wochenende bei einem kurztrip selbst sehen durfte. ich bin noch dabei, meine eindrücke zu ordnen und auch die vielen fotos, die ich auf dieser reise geschossen habe. aber wieder einmal zeigt sich, BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT und ich habe sie gerade in GIPUZKOA gefunden. ich habe saftige grüne landschaften gesehen, gelernt was pelota ist, hatte köstliche pintxos vascos und baskische haute cuisine und ich habe eine radtour von 34 kilometern durchs grüne überlebt. heute lasse ich euch davon einfach ein paar impressionen in bildern hier…

is green! i really didn’t know that before i had the chance to visit it for short trip last weekend. i’m still kind of sorting my fresh impressions and also all the pictures i took at this special piece on earth. once more i can say BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT and i just found it in the GIPUZKOA region. i saw lucious green landscapes, learned about pelota, had delicious pintxos vascos and basque haute cuisine and i survived a 34 kilometer bike-ride. today i simply got some pretty green images here for you…

eigentlich sind wir in berlin ja immer lieber etwas abseits der ausgetretenen touristenpfade unterwegs, entdecken coole, kleine geschäfte, cafés und restaurants und lassen uns gern treiben. natürlich haben wir das auch wieder bei unserem letzten, kurzen BERLINtrip in den herbstferien getan, aber davon möchte ich euch ein anderes mal erzählen. ich finde nämlich auch, man kann nicht immer nur die trendigen szene-ecken hypen. manche touristenmagnete muss man eben auch mal besucht haben… weil sie einfach beeindruckend und verdammt geschichtsträchtig sind! deswegen nehme ich euch heute mit auf die KUPPEL des REICHTAGSGEBÄUDES und das sogar bei sonnenuntergang!

when we three travel to berlin we usually like to walk off the beaten tourist tracks. we love to explore the neighborhoods for small boutiques, cafés and restaurants just going with the flow. of course we did it that way again on our last short trip to BERLIN during the autumn holidays. but i like to tell you the story abouts our finds on another day. i really think you shouldn’t only do the trendy corners of the city. you also should visit some more touristy sights… just because they are impressing and historical! so today i’ll take you to the cupola of the REICHTAG BUILDING at sunset!

es hat einiges an unschöner geschichte auf dem buckel, dieses reichstagsgebäude, das “dem deutschen volke” gewidmet ist. zu alter und neuer schönheit auferstanden ist es heute sitz unseres bundestags und mit sir NORMAN FOSTERS glaskuppel von 1999 wieder highlight der hauptstadt-architektur. ein besuch der kuppel lohnt sich nicht nur wegen der wunderbaren aussicht über berlin, sondern auch weil der spaziergang über die spiralförmigen rampen schon allein ein erlebnis ist. wir hatten tickets für den späten nachmittag vobestellt. dank der zeitumstellung auf winterzeit fiel unser besuch gerade den sonnenuntergang… ganz großes kino!

the reichstag building, dedicated “to the german nation”, has truely seen a lot of sad history. nowadays it’s revived to old and new beauty and it’s home to the german parliament. after sir NORMAN FOSTER’S glass cupola was set up in 1999 it became a highlight of berlin architecture again. visiting the dome is really a fascinating thing you should do. you will not only enjoy the outlook over berlin but also the walk up and down the spiral ramps of the glass dome itself. we had some tickets for a late afternoon visit. we were lucky, because of the clock change to wintertime we actually went up at sunset time… it was a gorgeous sight!

als wir ganz oben in der KUPPEL ankamen, waren wir ziemlich beeindruckt von der futuristisch anmutenten architektur. aber wir haben ja manchmal auch ziemlich bekloppte gedanken. als wir da so saßen und schauten, dachten wir… dieses loch in der decke der kuppel und dieser saugstutzenförmige dings da in der mitte… hier könnte auch ein ort sein, wo menschen von aliens in die unendlichen weiten des weltraums abgesaugt werden! dachten wir so. wahrscheinlich schauen wir zu viel science fiction im fernsehen. übrigens versuchte herr p., mit meinem teleobjektiv der kamera, im BUNDESKANZLERAMT gegenüber nach angie in ihrem büro zu suchen. vergeblich. keine aliens, keine kanzlerin gesichtet. schade!

when we arrived on top of the cupola we were all amazed by the futuristic architecture. sitting up there, we three had some really meschugge thoughts. that hole in the ceiling of the dome and that suction pipe looking thing in the middle… could this be a place where people are sucked out into the vastness of space by aliens? well, yeah. we thought that. i guess we’re watching too much science fiction on TV. incidentally the hubby tried to use the telezoom lens of my cam to check out the bureau of our chancellor angie at the BUNDESKANZLERAMT vis-à-vis. he failed. no aliens, no angie either. bummer!

eine führung auf die tribüne des plenarsaals haben wir aus zeitgründen ausgelassen, denn wir hatten an dem abend noch eine verabredung mit der lieben HAUPTSTADTPUPPI und ihrer familie. aber wir hörten andere besucher ganz begeistert davon reden. falls ihr bei eurenm nächsten berlin-besuch vielleicht auch auf die reichstagskuppel möchtet, solltet ihr euch online voranmelden. das könnt ihr HIER auf der seite des deutschen bundestags. wenn ihr euch ganz spontan entschließen solltet, braucht ihr aber nicht zwingend eine vorherige anmeldung. bei freien platz-kapazitäten ihr könnt auch vor ort resttickets erhalten. das ist allerdings nur bis zu 2 stunden vor dem eigentlichen besuch möglich und auch nur, wenn ihr euch für die erteilung zutrittberechtigung ausweisen könnt. habt also auf jeden fall einen perso oder reisepass dabei.

wir fanden dieses touri-erlebnis richtig cool und ein echtes must-do! wart ihr schon mal in der reichtagskuppel? wie hat es euch gefallen?

since we hadn’t too much time, we abstained from taking a guided plenary hall tour. we had date for dinner with lovely HAUPTSTADTPUPPI and her family. but we heard people talking about that tour quite enthused. so if you like to see reichstag cupola on your next stay in berlin, you should do an online registration HERE on the site of the german bundestag. but you can also decide spontaneously. they sell remaining tickets of the day as of 2 hours before the visit. please remember that you have to show you ID or passport for a security check on location then.

well, we think going up the cupola of the reichstag was a really cool tourist must-do thing. did you ever go? how did you like it up there?

paris ist immer eine gute idee, das sagte schon audrey hepburn. und es stimmt. ihr wisst ja, donnerstag ist eigentlich BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT foto-tag hier auf luzia pimpinella. aber da unser gemeinsames BIWYFI fotoprojekt zur zeit eine kleine sommerpause einlegt, nehme ich euch stattdessen mit auf einen spaziergang durch das wundervolle PARIS. einfach so… weils schön ist und weils eine gute idee ist.

ich habe zimmerpflanzen schon immer gemocht. ich weiß gar nicht, womit sie es verdient hatten, in den vergangenen jahren so verpönt gewesen zu sein. diesen bloß-keine-spießigen-zimmerpflanzen-trend habe ich deswegen auch weitgehend ignoriert. leider mochten mich die zimmerpflanzen irgendwann nicht mehr so. mein grüner daumen von früher {ja, ich war auch schon im alter des fräuleins ein fan von bubiköpfen, yucca-palmen & co} zeigte irgendwann eine eher braune performance. deswegen war ich längst dazu übergegangen, robustes grünzeug in die wohnung zu stellen, das mir so schnell nichts übel nimmt.

i always loved indoor plants. i never understood why they were so frowned upon over the last few years. so i didn’t go with the no-house-plants-cause-they-are-white-bread-trend anyway and ignored it. unfortunately at some point the plants didn’t love me anymore. it looked like my formerly green thumb {yes, i already was a fan of eton crops, yucca palm & co. when i was the age of the fräulein} turned to mostly brown. so i started to invest in robust greens that aren’t that much picky in care.

deshalb frohlockt mein zimmergärtnerisches herz natürlich, dass zur zeit SUKKULENTEN und kakteen voll im trend sind! nicht, dass ich nicht schon immer gewusst hätte, dass die cool sind, aber dadurch gibt es im moment eine grandiose auswahl an fettblattgewächsen zu kaufen. so habe ich mich neulich ganz begeistert durch den gartenmarkt geshoppt und habe ein paar pflegeleichte schönheiten mitgebracht. manche von ihnen blühen sogar. andere sind auch schon ohne blütenzier eine echte show. so hat mein HENRIETTA blumentopf von MEYER LAVIGNE {die ich so liebe, weil sie mich wahrscheinlich an meinen bubikopf-topf von früher erinnert} ja wohl eine fabelhafte erbsige, neue frisur bekommen. wenn diese grünpflanzen nicht gute laune machen, dann weiß ich auch nicht. und nur einmal im monat ein bisschen gießen? perfekt!

that’s why my indoor gardener’s heart is rejoicing now that SUCCULENTS and cactii suddenly turned to trendy. not that i didn’t know before, i always thought they were cool. but now this trend brings such a wide range of fat plants into the stores. so i shopped myself through the garden center the other day to bring some easy-care beauties home. some of them even bloom. others really don’t need any blossoms to be a show-off. look at my HENRIETTA flower pot by MEYER LAVIGNE
with her pea-ish new hair. isn’t that awesome? these plants are really fun and they only need to be watered once a month. perfect, huh?

ganz wunderbar finde ich übrigens die monatlichen themen der URBAN JUNGLE BLOGGERS um igor {HAPPY INTERIOR BLOG} und judith {JOELIX}. seit sie die aktion gestartet haben, wollte ich gerne in der runde mitmachen. bisher habe ich es noch nicht geschafft. aber da ich nun nach meinem KLIPPO zu meinem eigenen fotoprojekt #BIWYFI wieder ein bisschen luft habe, freue ich mich darauf, auch mal an anderen round-ups teilzunehmen. an dieser stelle möchte ich mich noch mal ganz herzlich für all eure lieben kommentare zum ende von BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT bedanken. eure worte bedeuten mir sehr viel, und auch wenn es ein bisschen traurig ist… hey, ich bin ja nicht aus der welt!

start spreadin’ the news…

i’m leaving today…

ihr lieben, ich verabschiede mich heute für ein paar tage. wenn meine vorbereitung soweit kappt, dann läuft hier im blog alles fluffig und bunt wie immer und, keine sorge… auch BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT wird wie gewohnt stattfinden. sogar neue themen für den NOVEMBER habe ich euch schon ausgebrütet! ich werde sicherlich ab und zu online sein, aber ich bitte euch um verständnis, dass ich in den nächsten tagen nur ganz obermegadringliche mails zur abwendung von akut lebensbedrohlichen situationen zeitnah beantworte. ;) ansonsten bin ich ein bisschen OFF. allerdings hoffe ich, ich bekomme mein eiFon da drüben so getuned, so dass ich mein INSTAGRAM unterwegs ein bisschen mit fotos füttern kann. also, vielleicht sehen wir uns ja dort mal!? habt eine schöne zeit bis dahin!

dear lovelies, i leave for a few days. the blog is prepared and will (hopefully) run smoothly as usual. no worries, because our BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT project will take place as normal! i’ll even come up with new challenges for NOVEMBER. i ask for your understanding though, that meanwhile i will reply to tremendously urgent e-mails in case of life-threatening and most scaring situations only. ;) apart from that i’ll be OFF most of the time. the only thing i’ll try to run actively is my INSTAGRAM. i hope i’ll manage to get my phone set up to post some pics from “over there”… well, let’s see. have a great time, everyone!

P.S. im hintergrund seht ihr übrigens eine meiner persönlichen lieblingsfotografien… YOUNG DANCER von JOEL MEYEROWITZ von 1978. das original steht in irgendeiner galerie irgendwo zum verkauf… ein traum. aber da ich mir das nicht leisten kann, begnüge ich mich mit einer abbildung in meinem liebsten NEW YORK bildband.

mein allerliebstes ziel unserer ITALIENtour in diesen sommer, war weder die toscana, noch sardinien, es war eindeutig ROM! ja, trotz der brüllenden hitze im juli. ich liebe brüllende hitze. ich habe es genossen, dass die römer kaum die sonst übliche SIESTA machen und das in rom das leben tobt… den ganzen tag und ohne pause!

und weil heute MARKTTAG ist, nehme ich euch mit auf den CAMPO DEI FIORI. dort findet fast jeden tag am morgen einer der beliebtesten obst- und gemüsemärkte roms statt. wunderbar trubelig und bunt ist er und wenn man eine pause braucht, setzt man sich einfach auf einen cappuccino in eine der zahlreichen TRATTORIAS rund um den platz und beobachtet das marktleben ganz gemütlich.

the destination i loved the most during our ITALY trip this summer wasn’t the tuscany or sardinia… it was ROME! yes. i loved it so much despite the blistering heat. actually i love blistering heat. well, and i must admit i also loved the fact that the romans mostly don’t care about SIESTA times… life is humming there. all day long!

and just because it’s MARKET DAY today, let’s take a walk around the CAMPO DEI FIORI. there’s an everyday (exept sunday) farmers market in the morning on the piazza. it’s one of the most famous markets in rome and so no wonder there is an awesome hustle and bustle around this place. if you need a little rest, you just sit down in one of the many TRATTORIAS and have yourself a cappuccino. just relax and watch the market life…

in rom haben wir uns komplett verliebt. wir kommen wieder!

we really fell in love with rome. we’ll be back fur sure!

P.S. ich bin heute noch nicht dazu gekommen, mich durch unsere BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT collage zu klicken… aber ich habe den eindruck, als wäre es eine reise über alle märkte der welt. wahnsinn! danke, dass ihr immer so zahlreich mitmacht! auch, wenn ich längst nicht genug zeit habe, um überall zu kommentieren, freue ich mich über jeden, der spaß an unserem fotoprojekt hat und dabei ist. ihr rockt diese aktion!

meine güte, seit tagen sichte und sortiere ich urlaubsbilder. irgendwie sind da (wieder mal) unglaublich viele zusammen gekommen. nun ja, wir sind ja auch ganz schön nett herumgekommen in ITALIEN, das muss ja festgehalten werden…

oh my, i’ve been screening and sorting lots of travel pictures lately. i can’t believe (again) how many i took. but after all we saw some nice places in ITALY that needed to be captured…

aber so langsam ist land in sicht und ich kann schon bald ein paar reiseberichte posten. bis dahin möchte ich vor allem mal wieder fotos von EUCH sehen! ihr habt doch hoffentlich nicht vergessen, dass es morgen in die erste runde BAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT nach der sommerpause geht!? das thema I SEE FACES war zugegebenermaßen ganz schön schwierig… aber ich habe ein paar gesichter gefunden. ich hoffe, ihr auch? ich bin gespannt! bis morgen… :)

but now there’s land in sight and i will be able to post some travel report soon. until then i’d love to see some pictures YOU took! i hope you didn’t forget about our BEAUTY IS WHERE YOU FIND IT project to restart tomorrow!? summer break is over and I SEE FACES was the challenge. i must admit it was quite a hard one, but i finally found some faces. did you, too? i’m curious! see you tomorrow… :)

ich weiß… viele von euch kennen diese fotos wahrscheinlich schon… aber für mich ist und bleiben sie einfach die allerschönsten fotos von meinem kind in bewegung. also verzeiht mir bitte, dass ich sie noch einmal zeige…

surely many of already know these pictures… but anyway… they are and probably always will be my most beautiful shots showing my little one in action. so please forgive me to post ’em again….

Der Frühling 2020… wird vermutlich als der in die Geschichte eingehen, in dem ich fast nichts anderes gemacht habe als Eichhörnchen zu fotografieren. Das habe ich vor ein paar Wochen noch gedacht. Aber dann kam der Mai und der hatte ein paar Überraschungen parat. Für mich war es tatsächlich der schönste Monat seit Beginn der Corona Kacke. Der Arbeitsstress der ersten Zeit hat nachgelassen. Die Traurigkeit auch. Und es gibt wieder mehr Dinge, auf die wir uns wirklich freuen. Wie Bolle sogar…

travel tansania | bei den katzen der serengeti

nach einer langen fahrt auf staubigen pisten und unserem besuch im MASSAI dorf, erreichten wir endlich die legendäre SERENGETI. scheinbar unendlich weite savannen-landschaft lag vor uns und auch der tag an dem wir den raubkatzen TANSANIAS begegnen sollten. bisher hatten wir auf unserer SAFARI am ersten tag im TARANGIRE nationalpark nur einen schlafenden, dickbäuchigen löwen aus der ferne gesehen. er hatte am flußlauf gelegen und hatte zuvor offensichtlich ein fürstliches mahl gehabt. mit der dicken molle war es nicht zu erwarten, dass er sich in den nächsten stunden auch nur ein kleines bisschen bewegen würde, also konnten wir ihn nur aus weiter ferne bestaunen. wir waren gespannt, ob wir in der serengeti näher an die könige der tiere herankommen würden. unsere hoffnungsvolle erwartung sollte später absoluter überwältigung platz machen…

… und dann sollte es losgehen, mit unserem safari-abenteuer in TANSANIA. vor eineinhalb tagen waren wir abends am KILIMANJARO airport angekommen, hatten die erste, kurze nacht in der kia lodge verbracht. vom kilimandscharo berg selbst sollten wir nichts sehen… er war, wie man so schön sagt, wieder mal “out for shopping”. unser safari-guide abdallah {in einem späteren posting möchte ich euch gern noch mehr von diesem großartigen mann erzählen} hatte uns dort am vortag abgeholt und in unsere zweite unterkunft, das hübsche aishi machame hotel, gebracht. dort konnten wir uns noch ein bisschen aklimatisieren. wir machten einen spaziergang durch das dorf {fotos davon werde ich euch später auch noch zeigen} und meine lieben planschten im sonnenbeheizten eiskalten pool. nach einer weiteren nacht und einem frühen frühstück mit einem safari-briefing durch abdallah brachen wir dann auf zu unserem allerersten safari-tag in richtung des TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK. es gingen uns so viele dinge durch den kopf. wir hatten absolut keine ahnung, was uns erwarten würde. wie viele tiere würden wir heute überhaupt sehen? und welche? würden wir einen feldstecher brauchen oder würden wir sie aus der nähe bewundern können? wir waren schließlich absolute safari-greenhorns und natürlich waren wir mächtig aufgeregt und erwartungsvoll.
… and then suddenly we were about to start our safari adventure in TANZANIA. two days ago we arrived at night at the KILIMANJARO airport and spent the first, short night at the kia lodge. we didn’t see anything of the mount kilimanjaro… like so often it was “out for shopping”. that’s what the people say. our safari guide abdallah {i’m going to tell you more about this awesome guy later} picked us up the day before and drove us to our next accomodation. it was the lovely aishi machame hotel, where we spend the day walking the village {pictures of machame will also follow in a later post} and enjoyed a dip into the sun-heated icecold pool. well, my lovelies did to be exact. we had a good sleep and started the next morning after breakfast and a short safari briefing with abdallah. we we’re heading to TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK. so many things went through our heads. we really had no clue what it would be like. would we be lucky to see many animals? and what kind of animals would that be today? would we need binoculars to watch them or would we be able to have them right in front of our very eyes? we were complete safari geenhorns. so we were exited to the max and full of expectations.

luzia pimpinella BLOG: statusmeldung aus NYC... nach dem hurrikan sandy / status update from NYC after the hurricane sandy

ihr lieben…hier eine kleine statusmeldung aus NYC. wir haben SANDY gut
überstanden…. nix passiert! unser hotel hat sogar noch strom. ich sage
doch… die glückscents! ich berichte dann mal ausführlicher, sobald
wir wieder daheim sind. es ist sicherlich kein urlaub, wie wir ihn
geplant haben, aber spannend und aufregend allemal… holymoly. wir
hoffen, unser flieger geht morgen planmäßig, aber genaues wissen wir
noch nicht, denn die flughäfen blieben heute noch geschlossen.

dear lovelies…another short status here from NYC. we are all fine safe and sound and we endured hurricane sandy without any remarkable turbulences. as i said before…. we found so many lucky pennies the day before. it had to be good for us in the end. i’ll report with some more details as soon as possible when we’re back at home. well, it actually wasn’t the vacation we imagined it to be, but it was an exiting experience… holymoly. we hope, our flight will be on schedule tomorrow, but we don’t know yet. the airports still have been closed today.

wifi habe ich im hotel im moment nicht mehr, was es ein bisschen
schwierig macht, zu bloggen wie geplant. heute waren dann auch alle
starbucks mit w-lan hoffnungslos überfüllt. ich hatte keine lust, mich
dazwischen zu quetschen. deshalb… muss ich leider auch unsere BEAUTY
IS WHERE YOU FIND IT fotoaktion von morgen auf freitag oder sogar
samstag verschieben (so wir denn dann wie geplant zuhause angekommen
sind). ich hoffe, euch macht das angesichts der umstände nichts aus. ihr
solltet mich sehen… ich hocke jetzt in diesem moment vorm
geschlossenen (!) burger king auf der 5th avenue und nutze deren wifi für dieses posting!

at the moment i don’t have any wifi at the hotel anymore, so it’s a bit difficult to blog my planned updates. the starbucks cafés opened up again today, but they were all so very crowded. i didn’t want to spend my time to squeeze myself into this crowd. that’s why i have to postpone our BEAUTY
IS WHERE YOU FIND IT photo project on a later date like friday or even saturday. in the light of the things that happened, i hope you don’t mind. you should really see me now… to post this i hunker down in front of the window of the closed (!) burger king on 5th avenue to get connected with their wifi which is still on! crazy!

kommentare und nachrichten. ich konnte noch nicht alles nachlesen, dafür
reichen meine kurzen onlinezeiten mit öffentlichem (und sehr
schwankendem) wifi einfach nicht aus. ich bin froh, dass ich es ab und
an mal schaffe, ein paar instagrams via phone zu posten… mehr klappt
im moment nicht. aber wenn alles gut läuft, dann lest ihr freitag von mir.

i’m sending greetings and thanks to you! thank you to those who were thinking of us, writing concerned comments here and sending messages via my instagram and facebook. i didn’t manage to read all of them yet either to reply. the wifi connection is quite instable and i feel lucky enough to be able to post some instagram pictures with my phone once in a while to keep a frequent kind of update. if everything works out fine, you will be hearing from me on friday, when we’re back home again.
