unser perfekter tag in PORTLAND, der so begann, ging dann so weiter… denn natürlich ist ein tag in PORTLAND nicht komplett, ohne einen spaziergang am hafen.
our perfect day in PORTLAND that began that way, went on this way… of course a day in PORTLAND isn’t complete without a walk at the waterfront.
OLD PORT bietet zwar eine menge shopping-möglichkeiten, aber wir schauten uns lieber ein bisschen echtes leben am hafen an. währenddessen besserte sich das wetter auch zusehens und wir entschlossen uns kurzfristig, doch noch eine tour mit der fähre zu machen.
the OLD PORT area offers a lot of shops and restaurants, but we rather watched some real harbor life. while we took our walk the weather was getting better. so we decided spontaneously to go for a ferry boat tour.
die CASCO BAY LINES bieten diverse fahrten zu und entlang der inseln in der casco bay. der DIAMOND PASS RUN passte perfekt in unseren zeitplan für den restlichen tag. wir erhaschten einen blick auf das inselleben, auf wunderschöne häuser und genossen die fährfahrt durch die bucht.
you can take different tours on the CASCO BAY LINE ferries to and along the islands of the bay. we went for the DIAMOND PASS RUN as it fitted perfectly into our schedule for the rest of the day. we got a glimpse of the island life, had a view on beautiful houses from afar and enjoyed the ferry boat trip a lot.

als wir von der tour mit der fähre zurück kamen, war es gut, dass wir es nicht weit zu laufen hatten. denn wir hatten eine ganz besondere verabredung zum abendessen, direkt um die ecke in der FLATBREAD CO. wir waren pünktlich und sehr aufgeregt.
nun, ich muss wohl weiter ausholen und an dieser stelle wieder einmal betonen, wie wunderbar das internet sein kann. es lässt die weite welt ein wenig näher zusammenrücken und man lernt liebe menschen kennen, denen man sonst im analogen leben niemals über den weg gelaufen wäre. vor etlichen jahren, als ich noch bei FLICKR sehr aktiv war, lernte ich dort die zauberhafte kristin aka MAINE MOMMA kennen. ihre fotografie inspirierte und berührte mich sehr. ich habe immer geglaubt, dass wir uns irgendwann auch im echten leben sehen würden und an diesem bewussten tag war es soweit. es war ein unvergesslicher abend voller herzlichkeit und freundschaft, voller interessanter gespräche und viel glücklichem gelächter.
when we came back from our ferry boat trip, we were glad that the place for our dinner date wasn’t far away but just around the corner at the FLATBREAD CO. we were just in time and quite excited.
well, to tell the story properly i have to start at an earlier point. once again i have to point out that i really believe that the internet can do magic. it lets the whole wide world come closer together and lets us get to know people we would have never met in analog life. i met lovely kristin aka MAINE MOMMA many years ago on FLICKR when i was still active there. her amazing photography inspired and touched me. i always believed that one day we would meet in real life and on that was that very special day. it was a memorable evening full of warmth, interesting talk and happy laughter.
liebe kristin, dich und deine zauberhafte familie zu treffen war etwas ganz besonderes. dieser wunderschöne abend mit euch wird mir ewig in erinnerung bleiben. ihr seid einfach toll und und fühle mich glücklich, dass wir uns getroffen haben!!! das internet ist eben doch ein magischer ort.

… und wenn so ein besonderer tag dann mit einem regenbogen am himmel endet und damit, dass das kind die eisbären retten möchte, dann denke ich, dass das leben einfach gut ist und bin unendlich dankbar für alles.
