oh mann… wo nur anfangen bei einem dreiwöchigen roadtrip durch ein paar städte kanadas und entlang der küste neuenglands? wo anfangen bei sovielen eindrücken und erfahrungen und noch mehr fotos. wo man doch am liebsten alles auf einmal erzählen möchte. am besten am anfang des trips… in TORONTO. und mit dem essentiellsten überhaupt… essen und schlafen… und essen!
oh man… where to begin after a three week roadtrip through some canadian cities and along new englands coast? where to start with so many experiences and impressions and even more pictures? i’d love to show and tell everything at once. but it’s probably better to start with the beginning of our trip… in TORONTO. and with the essentials…. eat and sleep… and eat!
unser erstes kanadisches frühstück hatten wir im SENATOR diner… eine empfehlung unserer liebenswerten appartement-vermieterin brenna. es stimmt also doch nicht ganz, dass es vor allem ein touristenmagnet ist, die einheimischen gehen ebenfalls dort essen. was allerdings stimmt ist, dass es tatsächlich das älteste restaurant torontos ist… und dass es dort verdammt lecker schmeckt.
we had our very first canadian breakfast at the SENATOR diner… a recommendation of our lovely apartment host brenna. so it’s not quite true that this place is only a tourist magnet, because also locals dine here. but it’s true that the restaurant is the oldest of whole toronto… and that the food there is very yummy.
die portionen sind üppig, wie es sich für nordamerikanische gefilde gehört, man schafft sie kaum. an den lagen köstlichen french-toasts [mit einem hauch von zimt!] konnten wir alle drei uns erfreuen, die huevos rancheros [served all day!] bringen einen über den ganzen tag und milchkaffee gibts aus den ganz fetten tassen. ein supernettes schwätzchen mit der bedienung, die verwandte an der hamburger alster und in augsburg wohnen hat, und kaffee-refill gibt es gratis dazu [eine tatsache die herr P. immer wieder sowas von liebt!]. wunderbar!
the servings are sumptious, like you expect it in north america. you hardly handle them. the layers of french toast [with a pinch of cinnamon!] made the whole family happy. the huevos rancheros – served all day – fill you up for half a day! the latte comes in huge mugs. a super friendly talk with the lovely waitress, who has relatives living here in germany in hamburg and augsburg, is on top and for free… als well as the coffee refill [something that the mister really loooves!]. awesome!

… das befand sich in der QUEEN street EAST, also sehr zentral und witzigerweise über einem kamera-geschäft. es war übrigens unsere allererste erfahrung mit dem buchungsportal AIRBNB und wir waren sehr gespannt. ihr findet es übrigens HIER, falls ihr neugierig seid.
… which was located QUEEN street EAST, so it was very central and amusingly right above a camera shop. this was our very first experience booking an accomodation via AIRBNB and we were quite curious how this all would work out. if you’re curious too, THIS is the place we stayed at.
empfangen wurden wir sehr herzlich von der apartement-besitzerin brenna, die uns nicht nur mit lokalem bier und apfelsaft im kühlschrank versorgte [als hätte sie gewusst, was wir drei mögen!], sondern für ihre gäste auch ein büchlein mit restaurant-, bar-, shopping- und sightseeing-tipps samt straßenkarte mit markierungen vorbereitet hatte. das fanden wir super. eine straßenbahnhaltestelle gab es direkt vor der tür, sehr praktisch. allerdings sollte man sich in so zentraler lage und mit einer hauptverkehrsader vor der tür bewusst sein, dass die nächte nicht mucksmäuschenstill sind. [liebe häuserbauer des nordamerikanischen kontinents, wann lernt ihr mal halbwegs isolierte fenster? nichts für ungut.] wir waren drauf gefasst. macht also nix. dafür war es sehr gemütlich und alles so schön nah und erlaufbar…
we had a very warm welcome by our lovely apartment host brenna. she provided us with local beer and apple juice in the fridge [as if she knew what we like!], which was so nice. she also prepared a little notebook with restaurant-, bar-, shopping- und sightseeing-tips, including a street map with matching marks, for her guests. we really appreciated that! there was a streetcar station right in front of the house, very convenient. one should be aware though, that staying that central at one of the main streets also means that it’s not all quiet at night. [dear house builders on the north american continent, when will you learn isolated windows? no offence.] well, we were pepareped to have some noise so it was all fine with us. the place was really cozy and so many nice things and neighborhoods were in walking distance…
… zum beispiel das HARLEM restaurant, gleich um die ecke. dort kommen motown sounds aus dem lautsprecher und amerikanische südstaatenküche auf den teller.

meinem jambalaya fehlte leider ein bisschen der schmackes [ich bin da wohl etwas verwöhnt vom superwürzigen jambalaya meiner besten freundin sonni], aber dafür war herrn Ps southern fried chicken und die jerk chicken quesadillas des jungen fräuleins köstlich. mein lokales bio-bier auch!
bummer, that my yambalaya was a little too flat for my taste [i think i’m spoiled by the nice and spicy homemade yambalaya of my BFF sonni], but mr. P’s southern fried chicken and the little fräulein’s jerk chicken quesadillas were excellent. such as my local organic beer!
das HARLEM restaurant [das, in dem wir gegessen haben – es gibt zwei in der stadt!], findet ihr 67 RICHMOND street east. da solltet ihr mal vorbei schauen, wenn ihr in der gegend seid. vielleicht habt ihr ja glück und es gibt dann gerade live-musik.

an einem weiteren abend in toronto war uns nach thailändischer küche… und auch die gab es wunderbarerweise bei uns um die ecke, so dass man nach dem köstlichen abendessen direkt nach hause kugeln konnte.
on another evening in toronto we were in the mood to have some thai food … luckily a gorgeous thai restaurant was just at the next block, too. from here we also could roll our full bellies home.
mein red shrimp curry im GOLDEN THAI restaurant war höllenscharf, aber sowas von lecker. das restaurant war nicht umsonst rappelvoll, denn das essen ist wirklich erstklassig. also, falls ihr in toronto seid und thai essen liebt, solltet ihr unbedingt verbeischauen…

der TRAVEL TUESDAY hier im blog wird sicherlich in den nächsten wochen mit geschichten und fotos rund um unseren roadtrip gefüttert werden. noch habe ich nicht einmal alle fotos gesichtet. der alltag holt einen ja so schnell ein… aber von den erinnerungen kann man dann doch endlos zehren. solltet ihr einmal fragen zu unserer reise haben… oder auch selbst tolle tipps zu den orten, die wir bereist haben, nur her damit! ich freue mich über eure kommentare! hab einen schönen abend.
